Inter Miami has made a significant addition to their squad by securing the loan signing of right-back Marcelo Weigandt from Boca Juniors for the duration of the 2024 MLS season.
The acquisition of Weigandt comes as a much-needed solution for Inter Miami, as they have been lacking a natural right-back since the departure of DeAndre Yedlin, who was traded to FC Cincinnati. While Julian Gressel has filled in at the position temporarily, he is not a natural fit, leading manager Gerardo 'Tata' Martino to adapt his tactics and utilize three-at-the-back formations with wing-backs instead of full-backs.
Weigandt's loan deal provides an option for Inter Miami to extend his stay through the 2025 MLS season, giving Martino the opportunity to implement his preferred 4-3-3 formation. The signing of a natural right-back was crucial for the team, as Jordi Alba and Noah Allen were the only fit full-backs prior to Weigandt's arrival.
Inter Miami's chief soccer officer and sporting director, Chris Henderson, expressed his satisfaction with the acquisition, stating, "We're pleased to bring defender Marcelo Weigandt on loan from Boca Juniors. He is a skillful young defender that is fit and ready to contribute. Marcelo comes with experience in both domestic and international competitions. We think this addition helps strengthen our squad to compete for titles."

Weigandt, 24, joins Inter Miami after making 72 appearances for Boca Juniors, where he showcased his abilities as a versatile defender. Since his debut in October 2018, he has recorded three goals and seven assists. He also gained valuable experience during loan spells at Argentinian club Gimnasia LP, where he contributed three goals and three assists in 21 appearances.
On the international stage, Weigandt has represented Argentina at the U-20 and U-17 levels, displaying his potential and talent. Additionally, he brings a winning mentality to Inter Miami, having lifted multiple league titles, super cups, and other domestic trophies with Boca Juniors.
